I was sort of disappointed that mer-people couldn't call. I wanted him to either do so and patch things up, or for him not to, so I could spend more days brooding. But I could do neither, for I didn't know what he was thinking or feeling. I didn't want to go back--I knew Yolanda would be close to him now. Had they spent the night together asleep on the ocean floor? Or the sandy beach under the bright moon?
I moaned into my salty pillow, the afternoon already hanging late in the air. I had to go. I didn't want to never see him again because I was making assumptions…even if they were dreadfully likely to happen.
